Published on November 7, 2017 in Paris "OUT"

A celebration of Noir! Presented since 2004 by the town hall of the 13th arrondissement and taking place from November 16th to 19th, the Paris Polarl will once again attract fans of dark stories, detective novels and thrillers for their annual feast of suspense and danger. The COQ Hotel puts you on the trail ...

Some clues about the agenda ...

The main crime scene will be the 13th arrondissement’s town hall, just a short distance from the COQ Hotel. You’ll have the opportunity to meet well-known writers of thrillers, detective stories and dark fiction, as well as up and coming new authors. Free entertainment, roleplay and puzzle games, crime scene reconstructions, exhibitions, readings, screenings and conferences are planned for various locations throughout the 13th arrondissement, including the Cité de la Mode et du Design.

You can head out on the trail of both real-life crimes and dark fiction locations on foot through the streets of Paris.

The Festival also presents an award ceremony on Friday, November 17th at 18:30 in the 13th arrondissement town hall to announce the winners of a competition. Launched a few months ago, it invited budding novelists to complete a story that began like this: A man one day receives a letter (maybe it was slipped under his door?). He opens it and shrieks ....

Women and crime

Following on from the 2016 theme, ‘justice and crime, facts and criminal cases in literature’, the 2017 edition spotlights women in the world of crime. Criminal women, femmes fatales, victims, investigators, witnesses and writers ... Paris Polar invites you to discover the female point of view regarding crime.

There will be a round table discussion regarding Violette Nozière, the black angel of the interwar period, a reconstruction of the investigation into the horrendous crimes of the serial child killer Jeanne Weber, known as L'Ogresse de la Goutte. You will also meet the authors Marie Vindy and Alicia Gimenez Bartlett; two queens of thriller fiction, as well as Jenny Rogneby, guest of honor, who will be present at the COQ Hotel on November 18th at 11:30. Come and be thrilled!
